Weekly Wrap (Week 13): The Real Race Begins

The 2008 RMFFL Regular Season is over. It seems like only yesterday we watched Richard bungle another draft (sorry buddy) and now we are a short two weeks from crowning the 2008 RMFFL Champion. So with 5 teams fighting it out for 3 spots, who was able to do what needed to be done in order to assure themselves of being one of the "Hallowed Four?"

Who will it be from Kelly's Heroes, the Green Bastards, the Brit Favreits, Team Gonzo and the Donfins that join Hawaiian Punch? And who will be joining the Impact Players and Hirsch's Hitmen? Here are the scores for Week 13, the final week in the 2008 RMFFL Regular Season.

Green Bastards - 99
Hawaiian Punch - 81
The Green Bastards did what they needed to do and that was win in Week 13 against Hawaiian Punch. However they still needed some help by blood rival the Impact Players in order to even have a shot at the playoffs. But even if the Green Bastards playoff hopes do not come to fruition they can still keep their heads high. By winning in Week 13 the Green Bastards finish their 4th consecutive season of over .500 football. They are the only team in the RMFFL that can say that. But I would be remiss not to mention that Hawaiian Punch have been just as successful in their 3 years of existence. Congrats to Hawaiian Punch for making the playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year.

Kelly's Heroes - 91
Impact Players - 100
And help has arrived, but was it enough? The Impact Players have done a huge favour for the Green Bastards by beating Kelly's Heroes. Are Kelly's Heroes' playoff hopes done? I'm not going to tell you here. You are all going to have to continue reading to find out who Hawaiian Punch's playoff opponent will be.

Donfins - 144
Hirsch's Hitmen - 52
Now that is what I call a beating. The Donfins seem to peaking at just the right time and look to be the team that no one wants to play. Is anyone really surprised that Hirsch's Hitmen would end on a note like this? I know I have picked on them a lot in the 4 years we have been doing this, but most has been deserved, and this 92-point loss shows that. I will say this though, Hirsch's Hitmen's future looks bright.

Brit Favreits - 91
Team Gonzo - 102
Team Gonzo, much like the Green Bastards, did what they had to do in winning against the Brit Favreits. But the question remains: did they do enough? I'm not going to answer that question right here because I want to make everyone sweat.

The Player of the Week for Week 13 is.............Donfins RB DeAngelo Williams. Williams scored 4 TDs on the way to a 32-point performance that helped the Donfins crush Hirsch's Hitmen. Williams' monster performances the past 4 weeks have been the key to the Donfins late-season run.

I guess now is as good as ever (and in the same spot as always) to get the final standings out of the way. Here are the Final RMFFL Standings for 2008 (and hence here are your 2008 playoff teams).

Penthouse
z-1. Hawaiian Punch 8-5-0, 1285 pts
y-2. Green Bastards 7-6-0, 1196 pts
x-3. Kelly's Heroes 7-6-0, 1107 pts
x-4. Impact Players 5-8-0, 1184 pts
We have known for a week that Hawaiian Punch would be playoff bound but we now know who they will be facing, and that is the Green Bastards, which means that despite a 7-6 record Kelly's Heroes are going to the Outhouse next season with the Impact Players. The Green Bastards continue their streak of playoff appearances. They are the only team to make the playoffs in all 4 RMFFL seasons (Hawaiian Punch have only been in the league for 3 years, and they have been in the playoffs all 3 seasons).

Outhouse
z-1. Donfins 8-5-0, 1175 pts
y-2. Brit Favreits 7-6-0, 1235 pts
x-3. Team Gonzo 7-6-0, 1162 pts
x-4. Hirsch's Hitmen 3-10-0, 941 pts
So the Donfins win their first division title, and because of total points the Brit Favreits edge Team Gonzo for the other Outhouse playoff spot. Team Gonzo still have nothing to be ashamed of. Finishing the season with a winning record is a feat unto itself, and they should be proud of what they have accomplished. But some love must be given to the Brit Favreits as well. None other than Hirsch's Hitmen derisively said that they "don't want any players from Brit cause her team sucks." Well I can hear the Brit Favreits saying, "Who sucks now?"

So the playoff matches are set for both the Penthouse and Outhouse. It took until the final games of the 2008 RMFFL Regular Season to get to this point. Here are the MexiCup and Bedpan Finals.

Penthouse Division Championship
Green Bastards vs. Hawaiian Punch
Is it just me or does this matchup look familiar? This will be the 3rd consecutive year that these two teams have met in the playoffs, with each team winning once (Green Bastards in 2006, Hawaiian Punch in 2007). The winners of those games have gone on to win the MexiCup in that year. Not only is this a playoff rematch, it is also a Week 13 rematch. It cannot be denied that these are the two most successful franchises in RMFFL history. They have a combined 4 division championships, 7 playoff appearances, and 2 MexiCup Championships. It is safe to say that the winner of this game can lay claim to the title of best-run franchise in RMFFL history.

Outhouse Division Championship
Brit Favreits vs. Donfins
Probably the least likely playoff matchup that one could imagine back in Week 1. Both of these teams were considered up-and-comers, but not teams that were considered championship contenders. The Brit Favreits have been at or near the top of the Outhouse standings all season. The Donfins put it in another gear in the second half of the season and won their first division title in the 4 years of the franchise. The Donfins will also be looking to avoid the Curse of the Division Champion.

Penthouse Bedpan Championship
Kelly's Heroes vs. Impact Players
There is some bad blood between these two for sure. The Impact Players cost Kelly's Heroes their playoff spot by beating them in Week 13, and Kelly's Heroes would like nothing better than to return the favour and advance to the 3rd Bedpan Bowl in 4 seasons. Easier said than done, however, as the Impact Players have been on a roll as of late and are probably the most dangerous team in the Bedpan bracket.

Outhouse Bedpan Championship
Team Gonzo vs. Hirsch's Hitmen
A rematch of last season's Bedpan Bowl III sees the vastly superior Team Gonzo take on the underachieving Hirsch's Hitmen. The differences in these two teams is astonishing. In fact Hirsch's Hitmen would be wise to follow Team Gonzo's lead in stockpiling young talent. Even though Team Gonzo will be playing once again for a shot at the Bedpan they are a team on the cusp of greatness. With that said this could still be a great matchup because for some reason Hirsch's Hitmen tend to turn it on when the #1 Overall Pick is on the line.

So the playoff week kicks off on Thursday night with a game between the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders. I actually don't think anyone has any Raiders players so I think this only affects the select few who have Chargers. I say select few because outside of QB and RB the Brit Favreits have a monopoly on San Diego players.

Well that is all for this week, and that is all for the 2008 RMFFL Regular Season. At this time next week we will have our Mexico Bowl IV and Bedpan Bowl IV participants, and in two weeks' time we will have our 2008 Ron Mexico Fantasy Football League Champion. Enjoy playoff week everybody.
