So after 13 regular season weeks, 2 playoff weeks and 60 games we have finally crowned the 2008 RMFFL Champion. This was easily the closest season we have every seen as 6 teams finished with records over .500. Anyway no one signed on here to see we wax poetic about the season that just passed, y'all want to read about who won the games in the final week of the 2008 RMFFL season.
Impact Players vs. Hirsch's Hitmen
--Winner gets 3rd Overall Pick in the 2009 RMFFL Draft
This game was a pretty tight one. Both teams came out playing well. The recently signed Matt Cassel had a game-high 31 points for Hirsch's Hitmen. Unfortunately that was the lone bright spot for Hirsch's Hitmen. The Impact Players got great games out of Donovan McNabb, Maurice Jones-Drew and Randy Moss. This one was not as close as it could have been but it was still a very exciting match between two teams playing for pride. The final score was:
Impact Players - 115
Hirsch's Hitmen - 85
Hawaiian Punch vs. Brit Favreits
--Winner gets 5th Overall Pick in the 2009 RMFFL Draft
This is the game that no team ever wants to play in. Both of these teams came up just short of reaching Mexico Bowl IV so with nothing to truly play for it was pride and pride alone (with the 5th Overall Pick) that was on the line in this clash of 2008 Regular Season titans. This also happened to be the dullest of all 4 games this week. It was a close affair with little scoring. For Hawaiian Punch it was Reggie Wayne and Jay Cutler leading the way with 10 points and for the Brit Favreits it was Aaron Rodgers with 16 points that kept them in it. After the dust settled the final score was:
Hawaiian Punch - 57
Brit Favreits - 71
Now the 2 titles games.
Bedpan Bowl IV
Kelly's Heroes vs. Team Gonzo
--Winner gets the Bedpan and the #1 Overall Pick in the 2009 RMFFL Draft
This was a rematch of Bedpan Bowl II. In 2006 Team Gonzo defeated Kelly's Heroes 73-45 and Kelly's Heroes were looking for revenge. This was the highest scoring Bedpan Bowl in history and was one of the most exciting ones as well. A career day by Andre Johnson and Peyton Manning being Peyton Manning (which he wasn't in Week 13 and that may have cost Kelly's Heroes the 2008 MexiCup) were matched by a great day by Team Gonzo's recently re-signed RB Dominic Rhodes and potential, and probable, MVP Drew Brees but when late season acquisition Antonio Bryant put up a big 16 points for Kelly's Heroes it was all over. The final score and the 2008 Bedpan Bowl Champion is......
Kelly's Heroes - 117
Team Gonzo - 92
Kelly's Heroes are now the two time Bedpan Champion and are the proud owner of the #1 Overall Pick in the 2009 RMFFL Draft. Both of these teams finished the 2008 season above .500 and now have the top two picks in the 2009 Draft so I expect both of these teams to be better in 2009.
And now for the MAIN EVENT
Mexico Bowl IV
Green Bastards vs. Donfins
Back in 2006 these two teams met in Mexico Bowl II and the Donfins were run over by the Green Bastards, who rode the historic season of RB LaDainian Tomlinson to the championship. The final of that game was 114-78. This year's rematch was not much different. Tony Romo and DeAngelo Williams were great for the Donfins, but they didn't much from anyone else. The Green Bastards no longer can ride LaDainian Tomlinson to a championship, but they do have MVP-candidate Adrian Peterson and all world WRs Steve Smith and Calvin Johnson. But it was a career day by TE Dallas Clark and his 20-point effort that made this game even a bigger blowout than in 2006. The final score and the NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW RMFFL CHAMPIONS ARE..............
Green Bastards - 120
Donfins - 67
THE GREEN BASTARDS are now the two-time RMFFL Champion. Is there any doubt that they are the GREATEST TEAM in RMFFL history? The Green Bastards have done something that no team has done by winning their second championship. This is a team that year-in, year-out is always a threat to win it all. With a second blowout win in a Mexico Bowl there is no doubt in this writer's mind (and I may be biased) that the Green Bastards are the best, EVER. This is not to take anything away from the Donfins who have been in 3 Mexico Bowls in 4 seasons and that is something to be appreciated and admired, even if they lost all 3 of those games.
With Championship Week over we have the official 2009 RMFFL Draft Order.
1. Kelly's Heroes
2. Team Gonzo
3. Impact Players
4. Hirsch's Hitmen
5. Brit Favreits
6. Hawaiian Punch
7. Donfins
8. Green Bastards
A reminder to all that the 2009 Draft will not be a serpentine draft. That means that for the 10 round draft that will happen in the Summer of 2009 will run as above for every round.
The season is over. Congratulations again to the Green Bastards for winning Mexico Bowl IV and to everyone for a great season. I would like to thank everyone for making this season the best season we have had. For the first time we had all 8 owners interacting with each other and being active members. This season saw many changes, most notably this very blog. I will continue to make posts throughout the off-season so everyone please stay active. Also the trade moratorium is lifted and teams are free to make any trades they wish in order to improve their team. Again, thank you everyone for making this the best season yet, but let's all try and top in it 2009.
